I'm a bit confused over the pronunciation of 蛤蟆: cantodict has haa4maa4 for the phrases, and the chinese university site also gives the reading of 蛤蟆 as haa4maa4.
But in the book 《廣州話口語詞彙》 "Cantonese colloquial espressions" published by the chinese university press for the phrase 癩蛤蟆想食天鵝,it gives it as laai3haa1mou1, and today I asked a native speaker about the reading of 癩蛤蟆, and they also said that it was laa3haa1mou1.
So which is correct? I doubt that it's a misprint in the cantonese colloquial expressions book. Are they variant readings, or is haa4maa4 the literary reading and haa1mou1 is the colloquial reading?
Does cantodict need to be updated?
