Yes, 乜解究 is possible in that context. But I would still write 解救, because the sentence refers to a scary situation. In that case, 乜解救 acts like "What the heck" in English, whereas 乜解究 is more like "why."
If you insist on replacing 「解究」with 「解救」you have to rewrite the sentence to suit your interpretation.
「嘩！有乜解救呢？牆上有啲咁恐怖嘅畫，會嚇親人架！」
but that is moving the goal pole. I am sure you just misread the original quote and thought it was 「有乜解究」therefore, a clarification is needed.
People misread all the time, no one would think less of you as an Cantonese expert.
