Hello everyone! :D
I'm Jamie, a native Cantonese speaker from Hong Kong. I'm excited about carrying out my very first linguistic fieldwork and I wonder if any of you are interested in helping me out.
I did think of looking for at least 20 learners of Cantonese for my study but I only have very little time to finish my paper (by late August). :/
Right now I'm looking for 2 native English speakers who have learnt Cantonese for at least 1 year (and whose heritage language isn't Cantonese) to help record 80 characters, 80 words/phrases and 25 sentences and summarise a short dialogue in Cantonese for me. Relevant materials (word lists and recordings) will be provided to make sure you know how to pronounce all the words and sentences there. It would be great if you could share your language learning experience with me too!
In return I would be more than happy to give you some advice on your pronunciation based on your recordings. :) Unlike other research participant recruitments, I have no monetary reward to offer as I am still a beginner in SLA research and I don't have any sponsor. :/ All I can rely on is the kindness of avid language learners who love Cantonese as much as I do, if not more. :) It'll be even better if you're looking for a Cantonese-speaking friend! :D
If you are interested, please feel free to PM me here or email me at jamiedehk at hotmail dot com.
Thank you so much for reading my long post and I look forward to hearing from you!!!
Have a lovely day!
All the best,
Jamie
