Yeah, sorry, actually I didn't mean to criticize you personally-it was more of an observation.

Frankly, the more languages you speak the better, and learning cantonese is definitly the best option for children from cantonese families-if the parents speak mandarin to them, they'll only learn bad mandarin.

At least they can teach them to speak proper cantonese! And anyway, if you can speak cantonese, it's pretty easy to learn mandarin.

I know of lots of overseas chinese from other language groups, (taiwanese, shanghainese teochow etc) and they still pass on their langauge to their children.

Teaching chinese with mandarin is bad, because there have been studies which showed that there's no evidence to prove that it improves their writtern chinese, in fact, some studies say that it may even make it worse.

The education board had this published on its website, and removed it secretly, but a group of netizens had it saved and published it.
I don't think using mandarin to teach chinese has anything to do with improving their mandarin or chinese, I think it's political.

I really agree with the guy in the video who says that "parents think that they're gaining something new. ie mandarin, when in fact they're not"

I even heard of some school kids not knowing how to say "scarf" in cantonese 頸巾, they only knew it in mandarin.
Frankly, if you can't even communicate with people around you.

It's good that people are researching the negative effects of teaching chinese with mandarin, and I bet the government and policy makers aren't happy about this-I think they thought that they could just slyly substitute Cantonese with mandarin in the schools and people would think it's great.
