When I was in grade school, I learned it is always 一幢 when describe building. I actually do not know people write 一棟 nowadays.
Did they teach you to pronounce it dung6?
If you do a google search for "一幢大廈" in quotation marks, you get roughly 1,530,000 results. Lots of these are from Hong kong, and on the first page of the search results you can see:
