As a preposition that means “by” which is used before a passive verb to show who/what does, creates or causes sth, ‘bei’ can be read as ‘bei6’ and ‘bei2’ in Cantonese.
‘bei6’ is always written as 被, and is used only in literary context.
‘bei2’ can be written as 俾 or 畀, and is used only in colloquial context. Some linguists suggest that 俾 is the standard form while 畀 should be confined to the meaning of “to give”.
Another words 俾 or 畀 is correct in this colloquial context.
