Written Cantonese is used, but to a lesser extent, mostly in informal settings (by Cantonese speakers only) such as some magazines, social media, some comic books, some books (sometimes possibly just the title), sometimes subtitles for tv shows, sometimes parts of news and newspapers (for titles and quoting Cantonese spoken), and even in some official documents or the like to quote spoken Cantonese. Good for the cultural aspect and writing exactly what you would say.
Though Standard Written Chinese will be used in a lot more places and not only by Cantonese speakers. Anything official, newspapers, most tv show subtitles (if subtitles are Chinese), books, and is also on social media. Definitely more important to learn. Good in terms of usability and reading anything in Chinese, but different from spoken Cantonese.
What I have said may not be all-inclusive, but I think that's a general idea. From a non-native person, but I have read some resources, including Wikipedia, but I have also exposed myself to a lot of different things to practice my Chinese reading (I have taken some Chinese classes before (Mandarin), reading some news on Yahoo HK, Youtube, Facebook, Bible, some Cantonese shows with Chinese subtitles, and just using the Chinese versions of things when I can).

I agree, if anyone with a good handle on the text could translate at least one short story it would be a huge help. I am willing to work with 男人的浪漫 because I understood the text the most, but I would just be copying and translating from this site's Cantoparser; it won't be close to 100%.
It's a shame because in the story and video for CUT唔到有線潮文 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhPC5T1X4vg), I thought the story was funny in colloquial Cantonese, but the English sub-titles don't match up and could be lot better.

The Inconsistencies of Pinyin (with aid)
I have seen various people, as well as talked with various people, who have been been able to grasp proper Mandarin pronunciation through pinyin. From what I've seen some students have "been learning it for years" but still pronounced -ui and "yan" as is spelt, and -un "as the Cantonese -eun". Seen some discussions here and there, as well as Westerners who are taking up Mandarin. As such, I have written this guide specfically for a person I've talked with, as he is beginning to learn Mandarin. This article is not meant to criticize pinyin, but rather, to help him, as well as any Mandarin beginner to learn Mandarin pronunciation more efficiently and effectively. I know I'm contradicting several things here like conventional analysis as well as saying pinyin isn't perfectly consistent on its representation of sounds, so I am expecting hate, but again, I have written this for someone I know, and I am sharing cause I hope this will be of help to beginners (or students who have been learning it for some time but are still confused on the contractions and such). It mostly deals with the representation of a sound with different letters or a letter representing several sounds, and hopes to get rid of people's confusion. That is all. I do not really expect comments though. (Same message will be posted on a Chinese forum)

I'll be leaving to HK very soon and I would like to be able to explain why I'm there. Note that I hardly speak any Cantonese, but I feel familiar with the grammar since I've been learning Mandarin for 6 months.
So my question is : how to say "I am here to study", or in a more general manner how to give the purpose of you stay.
I'va already found some translation for :

Does it seem correct to you ? Can somebody explain how the first sentence is built ? How to combine the two ?
