Over the past month I've been really digging into older HK movies that you can watch over the internet. I wish I could say I've been learning a lot of Cantonese from them, but instead I just ended up liking them for being good movies or just being funny. It's the western New Year so I also wanted to share a few if any of you are interested. You should be AT LEAST intermediate with Cantonese to be able to follow along, these movies wouldn't be as good if you didn't understand most of what's going on. Anyway, see below. Enjoy. Also these movies are for mature audiences, they're not really meant for kids.
小生梦惊魂 - The ending to this movie was sooooo crazy. It also stars a young Chow Yun Fat playing a role I'll never forget him in. I thought the most of the movie dragged a bit, but I thought the last half hour was amazing.

Teppanyaki - 鐵板燒 - This is an older, slapstick comedy starring Michael Hui and if you are newer to studying Cantonese then you should learn about the older Hui films because they're still pretty funny even now. This movie is just plain ridiculous and the humor is very visual and over-the-top, if you like Stephen Chow movies you should watch this or another Hui brother movie.

24 Hours Ghost Story - I went through a phase of watching Cantonese scary movies and go figure - one of my favorites was about a haunted convenience store! This story is pretty simple, it's about a haunted 7-11 and the employees trying to get rid of a demon. Anyway, this movie strikes a good balance between comedy and horror and even 黃子華, Dayo Wong, shows up for an important funny part.

I hope some of you out there get a chance to watch at least one and like it. Happy New Years again and if any of you think of any new movie ideas let me know, I go through maybe two a week just to watch for practice and entertainment and always keep my eyes open.
