Why learn Cantonese and spend your time if the majority of Hong Kongers say that Chinese Mandarin is more useful and foreigners need learn Mandarin first? For life in HK enough two languages - English and Mandarin,

Globally, Mandarin is the more useful language in the twenty-first century. This does not preclude the study of Cantonese, however, and people generally take an interest in this language for a variety of reasons (e.g. culture, aesthetics, entertainment, politics, cross-linguistics, history, etc). Of course, it also has many millions of native speakers.

The English language is a colonial stain on those countries lying outside of the British Commonwealth and the United States. It has persevered due to its status as the global lingua franca.

I think free time better spend on studying Korean or Japanese. LoL

Maybe Japanese in the twentieth century...

Korean might be useful in the future if the two sides conduct a successful reunification. Their current divided status is an international embarrassment on par with the fragmented Germany of yesteryear.
