In Australia, 'Journey to the West' was called 'Monkey Magic'. It was great. There was Monkey, Pigsy, Sandy and the monk was Tripitaka. At that point i had no idea the show was from China, we knew it was dubbed into English. But my brothers, sister and I loved the show.
Only when I met my wife, who is Chinese did I find out more about this show. I dont watch it on TVB now, but it would be hard to beat that 70s or 80s classic version. I watched it in the 80s but im not sure when the show was actually made.
For what its worth my wife finds the current series boring. She watches TVB dramas cause she likes the local HK actors and are familiar with them. She doesnt know any of the current actors and finds the whole thing a bore.
I dont like watching things dubbed into any language. I find it not authentic and hard to follow.
TVB pretty much can do what they want so i dont think they will worry too much about a few people giving it to them, but good luck anyway!
